Mental Health Benefits of Physical Exercise

Exercise can make you feel better emotionally, physically and mentally, it has positive benefits to your brain showing a beneficial effect on depression and Alzheimer’s disease.

Researchers suggest that level of proteins called Brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF) boosts after exercise that play a  role in the mood –and other compounds.

Here is my story on how exercise changed my life, my experience of working out for over a month.

  • I am a morning person, I love to wake up early in the morning and get started with my day, but the last couple of months I realized my early sunrise is not fresh anymore, I feel lazy, tired, less productive, and lower immunity. I was becoming weaker and exhausted every day. I couldn’t concentrate on my work or plan my day.
  • Probably finding out an answer on my own, I made a mission in my lazy mind that I should change this.
  • That’s why I decided on trying to dedicate, about 15-20  minute exercise, 2-3 times a week. This change not only helped me to start my day simply in a happy mood but also regained my long-lost energy, the experiment worked and I could feel the change.

That is when I read about in the books,  the changes which I noticed in myself drastically after 15 days like my energy level increased, I was not feeling lazy in the morning and moreover, I was not sulky and cranky for my rest of the day.

Why Is It Important To Drink More Water At Work

It’s not surprising that we spend half of our lives at work. Almost 60 % of our body consists of water. Water supports waste elimination, helps to maintain body temperature, improve mental function and lubricates your joints.

During our working hours, we neglect our health, as our main priority is finishing the work on time, going to a  meeting. Getting the task done fast is always the first priority in our mind.

We forget to drink a glass of water even if the bottle is right in front of us. Many of us opt for beverages like tea and coffee. These may have diuretic effects ( Low sodium in your blood) – in other words, increases urination and expel fluid more easily leading to dehydration.

Dehydration affects Productivity At Work

We are not aware of the benefits of drinking water on the daily basis. Even if we know the health benefits we probably just neglect to drink more water, failing to realize how important is it to stay hydrated every single day.

Health issues like feeling tired, drowsiness, weakness, headaches, high blood pressure, having these symptoms our first thought isn’t that we’re not are having enough water.

This ultimately affects our productivity too, we go home from work this ultimately affects our health having a constant headache or we struggle concentrating on our work, it ultimately affects our colleagues and departments suffer indirectly too.

How to Prevent Dehydration At Work

Drinking water is the most important you should adapt to the second habitat at work. There are some things you can do in your daily water drinking routine

  1. Motivational and Attractive Water Bottle: Attractive things always catch our eye.It encourages you to drink water according to your schedule.
  2. Eat more water-contained foods: Fruits like grapes, apple, watermelon, and oranges have a high amount of water intake so opt these for a snack or in your midtime. When having lunch always make sure you have a glass of water with you instead of tea or coffee.

  1. Use hydration monitoring app: There are tons of free app that reminds you to drink such as DailyWater , Waterlogged. My personal favorite is plant nanny app, they let you add what you drunk throughout the day and let you tell how much water is recommended to drink according to your weight and body.
  2. Set yourself a challenge: Set yourself a challenge to complete at least 2L jug of water, in front of your desk and complete it before leaving the office.

Drinking water has lots of benefits in your working life. Try to balance out water with tea or coffee intake.
